Friendsgiving is a fun tradition, and we want to encourage all of you to start or continue the tradition — and therefore, remove any possible friction that might present itself when going from intention to execution.
We’ve found that planning (as dreadful and un-fun as that sounds!) makes for a smoother, stress-free operation. So, while spreadsheet and celebration don’t feel as if they go together, I promise this will make curating and sharing a meal with your closest friends so much better.
If this is your first go at Friendsgiving or it’s been a minute, the host typically serves the turkey. Beyond that, it helps to create a shared Google Doc to make planning easier. Friends can add their names and what they plan to bring. And remember the drinks! Have each guest bring a favorite drink or festive cocktail (mocktail) to enjoy!
I put together a Google Sheet (so everyone attending can easily access it, and changes appear in real-time. The File has seven sections (for apps, bread, salad, main dishes, sides, desserts, and drinks). It includes four columns, including the person’s name, what dish they will bring, a column for people to share any food allergies, and a column for notes about prep, reheating, or refrigeration needs so that the host can make space and plan.
I hope you find this spreadsheet helpful, and I can’t wait to see your photos from your Friendsgiving celebrations!!
