When it comes to working out, a little motivation goes a long way for me. The quickest fix? A refresh of my workout wardrobe. Sharing a roundup of my favorite summer fitness/active finds below!
With the warmer temps — and the hopes of it this being a very active summer — I am on the hunt for some great new active wear — so I searched high and low for options that are both flattering, practical, and a great value — and GOOD NEWS — I found a couple of options that check all the boxes.
Enjoy! Xx Meg
Lululemon Align Dress
$148
I’ve been a Lulu girl for decades but have recently fallen out of love — it feels like other active brands are nailing performance, comfort, and style better, but I still want to love the brand like I used to, so I tried on this dress, and sadly it just didn’t work for me. I felt like the dress was flattering, BUT, despite sizing up two whole sizes — I find that Lululemon runs soooo small these days — when putting this dress on (and especially taking it off — the half-detachable bike short confused me 🤯) it felt like a contortion exercise when dry, so I can’t even imagine what it feels like to take off after sweating, so it was an easy return decision for me.
Target Running Shorts
$25
I was skeptical about what $25 would get you and SO SUPRISED by how great these shorts looked and felt!! They have a bike-short lining — the fabric was butter soft — which I really loved because it felt like it held me in. The waistband is super comfortable and flattering, and the shorts are a great length — where they aren’t too short, where I feel like my booty is showing, but not too long to feel frumpy. They come in a handful of great colors — including my favorites — this, this, and this color.

Varley Harmon High-Rise Shorts
$80
I saw these on Liz Adams and immediately wanted them! They look so cute on her, and I felt like they were the perfect active mom but make it a cute look for the summer, but when I took them out of the packaging, the fabric wasn’t anything as I expected. It’s like thin warm-up pants from the 90s. You know the ones that used to swish, swish when you walked? And, the cut/side slit where just a little too revealing for my comfort level. So, as hard as it was because I was so excited about these shorts, I decided to return them.

Marysia Venus Tennis Minidress
$263
I love, love love the look and feel of this tennis dress by Marysia. Their signature scallops are so feminine, and the cut is LITERALLY perfect. With tennis shorts underneath and built in cups it’s flattering without feeling like you’re wearing a sausage casing (see Lululemon dress above). Sadly, I need to stick to a budget and just couldn’t justify keeping this dress (since I literally don’t play tennis these days), but if you play a lot of tennis YOU NEED THIS DRESS! It’s what all your dream are made of — I promise! And it’s now 30% off!

Beyond Yoga In Stride Lined Shorts
$88
These running shorts were my top pick for the try-on — they have bike shorts underneath that are so freakin’ soft and perfectly fitted, and the shorts are the perfect length. Not so short you feel like you need a perfect body to even wear them, but not too long to make your feel 100 years old. I kept these — in boring black — and know I will be living and training in them all summer.

(and sorry I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture in these, but I’ll show you on IG the next time I wear them!!)
Beyond Yoga High Waisted Biker Shorts
$68
I’ve had these bike shorts for over a year now, and they are by far THE MOST FLATTERING and MOST COMFORTABLE bike shorts on the market. I have tried on a lot and feel like most make my upper quad look AWFUL, but I love these so much. They are just a little longer (allowing for nice length despite the inevitable riding up that happens with bike shorts) and the fabric is butter soft and so well cut. It feels like they hold you in without giving you a stomach ache. I love both working out in them, and they are also perfect for active days running around with the kids.

Varley Always Edwards sports bra
$60
I love this matching set by Varley — it’s so cute, and is super comfortable! The fabric, cut, and color are all dreamy. My only “watch-out” would be for the shorts — they felt a little short in the back — so if they are looking for a bit more coverage or have a little booty like I do — either size up or pass on this style!
For sizing reference, I took a small in both.
Okay, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed reading and most importantly if you are also in the market for some new activewear I hope this post helped you learn more about the difference in terms of cut, fabric and feel of all the option out there!
