With Fall upon us comes the opportune time to hit the reset button on our shelves, fill empty wall space, restock the dish cupboard, and refresh our guest bedroom. The holidays will be here before you can blink, so let’s use October to make your house a home with a few thoughtful touches. This week, let’s focus on creating a welcoming guest room. Below are all my top picks…

Create a Welcoming Guest Room

Little Touches

+ FRESH FLOWERS — This bud vase is beautiful. My mom always makes sure our guest rooms have fresh flowers from my dad’s garden. As a kid, I didn’t get it, but now it’s one of the things I enjoy the most, so I always do the same for our guests.

+ A WELCOME NOTE FOR YOUR GUESTS — and don’t forget to include your wifi username and password at the bottom!

+A COZY BATH ROBE — For a smaller budget or a bigger budget.

+ SLIPPERS — These terry spa slippers are only $11!

Bedroom Must Haves

+ A GREAT MATTRESS (or, if you don’t have the space, like us), we suggest getting a mattress topper to make the pull-out couch or air mattress much more comfortable.

+ SOFT BED LINENS — We are big fans of Ralph Lauren — Their sheets are incredible on night one and get even better with every wash.

+ A FLEECE BLANKET — This layer (tucked in after the top sheet) makes the bed extra cozy and tight, guaranteeing your guests a great night’s sleep.

+ FLUFFY WHITE TOWELS — Nothing says luxury like a big stack of fluffy white towels! My favorites are Matouk — and we also love Weezie’s towels, but we find the Weezie’s snag a little quicker than Matouks.

+ A PLACE TO PUT THEIR SUITCASE — These hardwood luggage racks are stunning.

+ A FEW EXTRA HANGERS IN THE CLOSET

+ A BOX OF TISSUES

+ A TRASH CAN

+ EXTRA PILLOWS & BLANKETS ON THE BED — Everyone has different comfort levels, and what you think might be enough might not be! In case they get cold, having a few extra pillows and throw blankets is thoughtful.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF WHEN TIDYING + PREPARING THE GUEST ROOM ROOM

• Is there a place to charge their phone + computer?
• Is there a place to hang a wet towel? Wet bathing suit? Bathrobe?
• Is there a mirror in the room somewhere?
• Do you have a bedside table and lamp for evening reading? Or maybe just a reading light? Guests are new to the space, so ample lighting goes a long way to make them feel more comfortable around the room. 
• Is there a clock or alarm clock?
