When it comes to essentials, nothing tops the list quite like a great pair (or three) of denim. It’s the ultimate workhorse of my wardrobe. And with denim silhouettes changing so much, it’s hard to know where to start.
While I certainly have my tried-and-true favorites (these and these), the truth is, even when I land on a new pair that comes as close to perfect as it gets, I’m still on the hunt for the next best ones (considering these when they come back in stock).
Looking for your next best pair? This list might help. Read on for a peek at the jeans I’m living in right now.
Citizens of Humanity Charlotte High Rise Straight Jeans
These jeans are very flattering on, especially the rear pocket placements and the way they sort of skim — but don’t cling to your legs. They are a great straight-leg, high-rise cut, and I am obsessed with the wash. They look both contemporary and classic (not skinny, because as we are told, that’s out now) but not one of the wider legs that are dominating street style. A perfect compromise!
Sizing Note — I wear my small size, but they don’t have any stretch, so if you are between sizes, I would recommend sizing up for a more comfortable (all-day) fit.
Reformation Cynthia Jeans
These Reformation jeans check every box for me when it comes to denim: high-waisted, straight-leg, no stretch, and the ideal length for wearing with ballet flats or a pair of heels. What really levels these jeans up for me though is the “Colorado” wash. It’s my idea of the perfect blue – a timeless shade that can easily be dressed up or down.
Sizing note — these jeans have zero stretch so if you are in between sizes, go up.
Levi’s Ribcage Straight-Leg Jeans
Many of you are familiar with my love affair with the Ribcage style from Levi’s. These are for those of us who love a super high-rise (read: very flattering), don’t care for stretch, and want to remain incredibly comfortable. And the best part, they ring in at just under $100.
Sizing note — Size up 1-2 from your normal size. Levi’s run small!
Reformation High Rise Wide Leg
I’m developing a bias for Reformation jeans — the pair above was my first go, and I knew they were different from the minute I put them on. So, you can imagine my excitement when I learned the denim expert Benjamin Talley Smith — who also designs/consults for Khaite, Ulla Johnson, and Re/Done was also behind Reformation’s denim. They feature zero branding and flattering fits. P.S. They are also under $200.
So, I couldn’t resist snapping up this wide-leg pair. They have a slim wide leg (too wide is too much for me) while still being fitted in all the right places. They’re a great daytime pair of jeans and I’ve been wearing them on repeat because they are just so comfortable.
Sizing note — I found these jeans to run big, so I would recommend going down 1 so they don’t swallow you up!
