I love a good stripe. It’s a wardrobe staple that is chic, timeless, and, if you do it right, cool. But there are so many options at all the different price points, so I went in search of the best one for the spring and summer. Honestly, since I love stripes so much, I couldn’t resist keeping a few of these shirts, but with the help of KCD, my little humans, and phoning a few friends for their feedback, I was able to narrow in on my top recommendation if you only buy one striped shirt this spring/summer. AYR — The French Fry

This shirt fell flat for me. It was my least favorite of all the ones I tried on. Studying the design more closely, I don’t love the contract at the neckline, and I felt like the fit was just extremely boxy — making it feel a little frumpy and unflattering. This is unfortunate because I was hoping this could be a great value buy for us, but it didn’t measure up.
Saint James — Minquieres Moderne

I’ve been wearing (and loving) Saint James for years, but I honestly didn’t know the difference between their different styles. This Modern cut didn’t work for my body type at all. It was fitted around the hips but baggy at my waistline and my chest, making it just feel awkward. Maybe I should have tried sizing up. Either way was probably my second least favorite in this try-on.
Tuckernuck — Hayden Tee

This is Tuckernuck’s private label brand. It’s most similar to the fit of my favorite Saint James tee (below) — boxy for easy movement and perfectly oversized. In terms of color, it’s more of a royal blue/white vs. the traditional navy/white. Its material is on the thinner side but not too thin to wear alone. Could be a great weight for warmer climates or peak summer. But, for the same price as Kule (below), it’s honestly a pass for me.
La Linge — Davie Tee

La Linge is setting the new gold standard for the stripe, so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see what all the hype was about. BAD NEWS, this shirt looks and feels incredible. It’s cropped — making it the perfect length (read: most flattering) and boxy giving you easy movement, and the fabric feels like a dream. The price point is a little steep, but it aligns with how incredible the quality, fit, and design are. I especially love this navy/white strip tee (it comes in the traditional white/navy too). Since it’s on the pricey side, it doesn’t get my top recommendation, but if this is in your budget, I can guarantee you’ll fall in love with this shirt.
Saint James — Minquiers Drop II

I love this shirt — and it’s my #2 pick for the classic white/navy stripe. I love the drop sleeve, boxy fit, and boat neck. It feels like a shirt that you can wear casually or dress up. It gets second place because it’s a little more expensive ($10) than the Kule shirt and it does run a bit more oversized, risking it feeling a little unstructured if it’s not styled correctly. That said, I’m a sucker for the classic Saint James logo on the sleeve, and I know this shirt will be a forever staple in my wardrobe because it’s chic and classic.
Kule — The Modern Long

This shirt checks all the boxes for me. It’s flattering — it’s fitted through the chest and boxy at the bottom — without being shapeless. The color of this style is more ecru vs. bright white, but it comes in a handful of great color combinations. This one takes the #1 spot for me and is my new favorite striped tee — and that’s saying A LOT. It nails chic, classic, and cool all at the same time.
I took my normal size, but if you want a more oversized look, I’d recommend sizing up! If you aren’t sure what you want, they also have free shipping and returns, so maybe order both sizes to see which one you prefer and return the other one!
