As we all get ready to send our kids back to school, this is also a great season to teach our kids about giving back and the power of helping others. With many families in our communities living paycheck to paycheck back to school means starting the year a mile behind the starting line because they won’t be able to start the year with the supplies they need. Teachers also need our help. School budgets across the country are getting tighter and tighter, and teachers are often left buying supplies for themselves and their students out of their own money.
We love the idea of getting your kid(s) involved, picking up a few always-needed supplies to fill a backpack, and dropping it off at a local collection site or helping your student’s teachers stock their closets with supplies for the year.
It’s not just about paper, pens, or binders — it’s about giving the gift of opportunity in school and life that many children will not receive otherwise.

Fill a Backpack
If you are like us, you have started to see collection boxes popping up in your local grocery store, library, or rec center asking you to help fill a backpack with school supplies. These drives are an excellent way for you to support students in your community who might not otherwise have the school supplies they need to start the year. Typically, these donations are given to school counselors or DV centers to share them with the kids who need them most. We have given you some basics that would be great to include below.
Stock A Teacher’s Closet
Another great way to support your community is to help your student’s teachers stock their closets with supplies for the year. School budgets across the country are getting tighter and tighter, and teachers are often left buying supplies for themselves and their students out of their own money. If you have already picked up your child’s supply list for this year, you may have seen a section at the bottom explicitly listing items that the teacher needs, so you can follow that list. But, if not, here are some supplies that teachers at all levels can’t live without
Your donation isn’t a gift — it’s a GAME CHANGER!
Thanks as always for your friendship and readership. I hope you find this post helpful and inspires you to get your kids involved and give back!
